Our modern life is full of racing towards a goal, or a deadline, or some kind of finish line. We never really consciously think about what is happening to us in the present moment. The future is so tempting to focus on that our thoughts become clouded, and we struggle to appreciate the moment. Setting an intention for the day can bring you back to the present, and give purpose to your day. When your mind wanders aimlessly in the office, or when you’re sitting in traffic angry at the stopped cars, that’s where your intention can help guide you back. In the morning, tell yourself, “Today, when my mind wanders, I am going to focus on the present moment.” Guiding yourself back with your intention can help you stay focused at the most needed times.
